The beauty benefits of your fruit and veg

Did you know that some of the best beauty hacks come from natural recipes including some of our favourite fruit and vegetables?

I’m sure you’ve heard people talking about how eating your five a day gives you super soft clear skin, or how eating fruits full of Vitamin C will help to clear up any blemishes,i but have you ever considered actually putting these fruits and veggies on your face?

We’ve gathered, what we think, are some great natural beauty hacks and above all, a brilliant way to use up any of those unwanted fruits and veg that maybe sitting in the bowl and not being eaten.

1. Your skin looks amazing

Remove that pre-made face mask from your shopping basket and pick up an avocado instead. Some of the best natural face masks are made from avocado and are renowned for rejuvenating your skin. As well as containing Vitamin C and E which help to create elastin and collagen,ii maintaining the skin’s firmness, avocado is also high in oleic acid content which helps to keep moisture in your skin leaving your face feeling soft and hydrated.iii


For your avocado and honey facemask, just mix together one fully ripe avocado with a tablespoon of honey and stir well until it forms a paste. Apply an even layer to your face and leave for 15-20 minutes.

2. When did your hair get so long?

When it comes to our hair, it’s important that we look after it ladies and gents! It’s great to have a regular hair routine going on, and many of you probably have your go-to products, but every once in a while why not shake it up a little? Have you ever noticed that many shampoos have strawberry extract in them? Well, they do and let us give you a little more insight. Strawberries, for obvious reasons known as ‘queen of the fruits’ are a great source of Vitamin C which helps to promote healthy hair growth. Deficiencies in Vitamin C can sometimes lead to split ends – which are never a good look!iv The fruit is also loaded with silica which helps to prevent baldness and maintain hair growth.v


Want luscious locks? Follow this simple method. Mash ripened strawberries with coconut oil and a dash of honey to form a paste. Apply to your hair for approximately 20 minutes and wash off with cold water. It’s that easy!vi Now, we can’t promise an instant transformation, but add this to your weekly or monthly beauty regime to give your hair the natural boost it deserves.

3. Where did you get your nails done?

Healthy bones, teeth and nails is something we all want, right? And we’ve all heard that we need to drink plenty of milk to ensure you’re stocking up on our calcium. But there’s one reliable source in particular that you may not have heard about before.


As spring approaches, the nutritious green pea comes out to play. Don’t be fooled by the size of this mini vegetable, it is rich in nutrients and protein, so much so that the protein actually helps to strengthen fingernails and speed up growth.vii So next time your nails begin to break, try incorporating green peas into your meal times.
